Instructions for Downloading and Importing Report Templates for your Sterling Edition Programs:

We recommend that you print these instructions so that you can refer to them during the import process.

  1. Review the Report Template Descriptions on this web page and choose a template you would like to use on your system.
[Please note: Simply clicking on the file name (as you would a normal link) will open the file in your browser window].

  2. Download the Template file.

    Macintosh Download:
Position your mouse cursor so that it is over the "link" to the file that you wish to download. Your pointer turns into a finger. Hold down your mouse button and choose "Save this Link as" (Netscape) or "Save Target As" (Explorer) from the pop-up menu. Save the file to your hard drive with the format set to "Source". Pay close attention to the file name and location so that you will be able to find and retrieve the file at a later time.

    Windows Download:
Position your mouse cursor so that it is over the "link" to the file that you wish to download. Your pointer turns into a finger. Now, "Right-click" your mouse button and choose "Save this Link as" (Netscape) or "Save Target As" (Explorer) from the pop-up menu. Save the file to your hard drive with Format set to "Source". You now have the file saved to your computer's hard drive. Pay close attention to the file name and location so that you will be able to find and retrieve the file at a later time.

  3. Once you have completed the download process, you can quit your browser (and other applications) and then start your Sterling Edition program and log on.
[Please note: An imported template will only be associated with the educator who imported it. To use the same template, other educators may then import the file under their own login.]

  4. From the Sterling Main Menu screen click on the Report Writer icon to view the Report Writer screen.
[Please note: It does not matter which student is selected. You will be able to apply a template to any student file.]

  5. Locate and click on the "Advanced" button near the upper-right side of the screen.

  6. Click on the "Import" button near the lower-left side of the screen. Once you've located the file, click "Open".

  7. When the program recognizes that the file is in an authentic template format, you will be asked if you want to proceed with the import.
[Please note: If the template has been altered in any way outside of a Sterling Edition program, it may not be possible to import the file.]

  8. Once the template appears in the Report window, you'll need to switch to "Template View" by choosing "Template" in the "View As" pull-down menu.

  9. Now, click on the "Save Template" button located near the bottom-right side of the screen. You will be prompted to enter a name for the report. Choose a name that describes the report template, such as "First Words Parent Report" then click "Save".

  10. That's it! Now the report template will be available to apply to any student by selecting it from the "Available Reports" pull-down menu.
